Why Accessible Philanthropy Matters
As nonprofit leaders, the reach of your impact is ultimately influenced by the depth of your funding. The programming and services you provide are only as widespread as your dollars are able to stretch. One of your biggest questions leading into year-end might be: how do we inspire more people to give? The answer may be simpler than it seems: make philanthropy accessible.
Miami’s Culture of Giving: Big Impact Starts Small
Locally, Give Miami Day, hosted by The Miami Foundation, stands out as one of the nation’s largest 24-hour giving events. Since its inception, it has raised well over $100 million for more than 1,000 Miami-area nonprofits, including PhilanthropyMiami. In 2024 alone, Give Miami Day reached a record-breaking $39 million- an incredible showcasing of what happens when our community comes together.
PhilanthropyMiami also lifts up the everyday spirit of generosity through Donor Next Door. More than an event, it’s a tribute to the volunteers, small donors, and champions whose contributions fuel Miami’s nonprofits year-round. With personalized honors and storytelling moments that highlight heroes sung and unsung, Donor Next Door underscores that generosity is measured not just by scale, but by spirit.
This celebration reminds us that philanthropy doesn’t require privilege, it requires heart. And everyone is invited to join in.
What Accessible Philanthropy Looks Like:
Show your giving community that anyone can be a philanthropist—no status, age, or experience required. Every voice counts, and every action ripples forward. All that matters is care.
As you plan for your year-end, implement these tips to get donors to give.
- Show donors they can give what they can, when they can: Even a small donation goes further than they may think. Every contribution, no matter the size, contributes to unlocking matching funds—amplifying impact across the board.
- Show donors they can give their time: Volunteer hours are just as precious as currency. Their time can uplift local nonprofits in countless ways. Spending some of their time supporting the needs of others feels good too. Expand their ideas of volunteering to include coaching, mentoring, serving meals and organizing events.
- Show donors they can share causes they love with their networks: A post on social media, a text or a personal recommendation can bring new supporters to causes and multiply awareness.
